Children’s Homes’ Leader Appointed to
Governor’s Faith-Based Advisory Council

LAKELAND, Fla. – Governor Charlie Crist recently appointed Jerry T. Haag, Ph.D., president of the Florid Baptist Children’s Homes to a three-year term on the Florida Faith-based and Community-based Advisory Council.

Haag’s term began June 5, 2009 and will end July 18, 2012. The Advisory Council serves as a formal policy council to the Governor and the Florida Legislature and is administered by the Governor’s Volunteer Florida Foundation.

“I am humbled and gratified to have been appointed by Governor Crist to this position. As president of the Florida Baptist Children’s Homes I see firsthand the incredible needs of the abused, neglected and orphaned children in our state. I also know that the faith community is making an incredible impact on the lives of these children and on other vulnerable residents in our state,” Haag said.

“I look forward to working with other members of the council in order to meet some of the most profound needs of the residents in our state. I believe that government and the faith community can do even more collaboratively in order to improve social services in Florida.”

The Advisory Council was established in 2006 and is comprised of 25 members that are appointed by the Governor and the Florida Legislature. The Council is tasked with providing annual recommendations to the Governor and the Legislature on ways the government and the faith-based community can work together to improve social services for Floridians.

Dr. Haag is a graduate of Baylor University and earned a Ph.D. in finance and real estate from the University of Texas at Arlington.  He has served on the faculty of two universities and worked in private industry.  He has presented and published academic articles relating to his business expertise.  In addition he speaks regularly on behalf of children’s issues and on business leadership, and is active in leading international humanitarian aid projects. Dr. Haag and his wife, Christi, live in Lakeland, Florida and have two sons, Ben and Brady.

The Florida Baptist Children’s Homes has been providing Christ-centered services for abused, neglected and orphaned children since 1904. Services include residential care, emergency shelter care, adult developmental services, foster care, maternity care, adoption services and the Sanctity of Human Life program.

The Children’s Homes also conducts international childcare missions to developing countries around the world. The Children’s Homes is accredited by the Council on Accreditation and delivers services to children and families in 12 locations across the state including Bradenton, Broward County, Fort Myers, Gainesville, Jacksonville, Lakeland, Orlando, Miami, Milton, Panama City, Pensacola, and Tallahassee.
